Grants
The United Way’s "Imagine a Neighborhood Initiative" is to offer project grants to groups or organizations that have a plan to improve the appearance or safety of their neighborhood. The City of Anderson is a partner in this initiative, with city funding designated specifically for groups within the city. This project parallels the City’s Neighborhood and Housing priority by focusing efforts at the grassroots level, encouraging residents to take an active role in re-building, and strengthening their own neighborhoods on projects they identify as important. Four teams participated in the tournament: Anderson Fire Department (2010 defending champs), Anderson Police Department, Water Works (Water Operations and Public Works) and Anderson County Sherriff's Office, with the APD winning. During the March for Babies, 42 employees and their family members represented the City, walking five miles at the Anderson Sports and Recreation Center. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
