Fundraiser for ChildrenDuring this holiday season, the Burn-Outs and the Anderson City Fire Department came together to raise money for the Calvary Home for Children. The Burn-Outs are a retired group of firefighters from the city and county that get together for breakfast once a month for fellowship and to talk about the old times. This is the second year that the two groups have paired up to raise money for the children. The Burn-Outs and the AFD raised over $1,700 this year for the home and also invited them to Golden Corral for breakfast. At the breakfast, the kids had the opportunity to spend time with the firefighters and look at the fire trucks. It was a great time for both groups. The AFD is planning future events with the Calvary Home for Children and are excited about our growing relationship with the kids. The Calvary Home for Children is a local home in the city that houses and fosters children. They take in children from Anderson County and present hope to children who are without adequate family structure and in need of a long-term family structured home. They also seek to keep siblings together whenever possible, teach reformed values, and mend emotional scars. For more information on the Calvary home or to give monetary donations for day-to-day operations, go to www.calvaryhome.org. |

Free Smoke Detectors
The Anderson City Fire Department has received 100 smoke detectors from the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation's "Get Alarmed, South Carolina" program. The program's goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the state. The fire department will properly install the detectors in the residence and answer any safety-related questions about fire safety in the home. For a city resident to obtain a free smoke detector, please call the fire department at (864) 231-2259.
