Employee Charity Softball Tournament
Four teams of City of Anderson employees held a charity softball tournament in October 2012, raising $302 for the United Way. The four teams were comprised of approximately 50 employees from Recreation/IT, Wastewater/Garage, Water/Cemetery/Transit/Business, and Fire. Recreation/IT won the single-elimination tournament.
Quarry Street Improvements
The City of Anderson held in September a ribbon cutting for the Quarry Street improvements, including relocation of utility lines (power and telephone), street widening from 20' to 24', installation of parallel parking, cul-de-sac, sidewalks with grates, landscaping as result of street and ground disturbance, and installation of pedestrian bridge crossing and railing with ADA accessibility in the East Anderson Redevelopment Area. The project was funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with Community Development Block Grant Recovery Program (CDBG-R) funds.

- Bobby Holden – coached baseball, basketball, and football for over 10 years.
- Kevin McGowan – played football, baseball, and basketball at the Rec for a number of years/ is now a noted and published physician in Atlanta, Georgia.
- LeNell "Snookie" Starks – worked with Barbara Mack at the Jim Rice Center in the afterschool and summer program for over 10 years.
- Arnold Howell – served the Recreation Department for around 40 years doing a variety of jobs in the athletic programs and field and park maintenance; coached girls softball for 15 years/ worked full time on the ball fields after retiring from the school district.
- Carroll Emery – was involved with the Recreation Department for over four decades serving in many capacities such as official, field and park maintenance, and supervisor.
- Anna Wentzky – played softball and basketball with the Rec Center before moving on to successful careers in high school and college/ now coaches basketball at McCants Middle School.
- Nicole Mattison Hood – played basketball, baseball, and softball at the Rec Center for nine years/ excelled on her high school and college basketball teams/ now coaches basketball at Dorman High School.
- Jessie "Dickie" Jones – began as a volunteer maintaining fields for the black girls softball league before being hired by the department as umpire and field maintenance man.
