While the Anderson unemployment rate increased to 7.4% this past June per the S.C. Employment Security Commission, Anderson still provides opportunities for job creation. Capital investment continues to be strong in Anderson even with a slowing economy. Anderson is home to more than 200 different manufacturing firms; including several international firms, such as Santens of America, Inc., Michelin Tire Corp., and Robert Bosch Corp., to name a few. These firms represent such fields as textiles and apparel, automotive parts, rubber products, electrical appliances, machinery parts, among many other goods. Twenty-nine of the manufactures employ work forces larger than 200 people at their Anderson sites. Manufacturing represents 28% of our labor force, with wholesale and retail at 28%, government at 16%, services industry at 16%, construction at 6%, transportation and utilities at 3%, and financial and insurance industries at 3%, according to the Anderson County office of Economic Development. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Area is ranked 12th in the U.S. as top recruiters of international business.
