For Immediate Release:
Mayor’s Annual MLK Breakfast Celebration to be Held Virtually
Mayor Terence Roberts and the Anderson City Council announce the fourteenth annual “Mayor’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast” to be held on Friday, January 15th. The virtual event will be live streamed beginning at 9AM on YouTube.com/CityofAndersonSC.
The theme is: Moving Forward with a Purpose: Think it – Speak It – Live It. This year’s keynote speaker is actor and Anderson native Brandon Micheal Hall.
“Dr. King believed in the power of young people to be agents for change and he treated them as essential partners in the struggle for justice,” Mayor Terence Roberts said. “We are pleased to have Brandon as our keynote speaker, underscoring the importance of the voices of a new generation as agents for change in a new era.”
Brandon Micheal Hall was born in Anderson and raised by a single mother. He has always had a passion for storytelling and was destined to pursue a life dedicated to the arts. After attending Pendleton High School, he was accepted to the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities at the age of 16. After years of rigorous training, he went on to study theatre at the Julliard School of the Performing Arts. Since then he has excelled as a professional actor in television shows including lead roles on “God Friended Me” and “The Mayor”. An entrepreneur at heart, Brandon hopes to use his success to give back to his community.
The City’s virtual event will include remarks by Mayor Roberts, the keynote speech, the presentation of the Trailblazer Award and special music by Octavia Hall, sister of Brandon Hall. The Anderson Mall is hosting a viewing of the livestream at 9AM in their Center Court and a special MLK mural unveiling with the Mayor and Brandon at 11:30AM in the Mall parking lot. Both Anderson Mall events will be socially distanced and masks are required.
“Though the circumstances of this year will make this event different,” Mayor Roberts said, “we look forward to it being just as special as it has been, maybe even more so, as the virtual event has the potential to touch people beyond our community.”
The City of Anderson is the presenting sponsor of the virtual event with Anderson University as the Dream Sponsor.
