Construction Starts on Home2 Suites Hotel in Downtown Anderson

Officials from the City of Anderson, along with Main at Market, LLC, announced that construction will start this week on Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Anderson at the corner of South Main and East Market Streets.

The general contractor for the development is Van Winkle Construction who will be managing this project from their office in Greenville, South Carolina. Van Winkle Construction is noted for its work on major developments including Residence Inn in Anderson, Holiday Inn Express in Taylors and multiple projects in Atlantic Station. Willie E. Russell, Jr., Director of Construction for the company, said, “Van Winkle is eager to be a part of one of the fastest growing communities in the Upstate. We are excited to see this new development transform an already vibrant downtown area.”

The site contractor is Fontaine Construction of Anderson whose work on major projects in the Upstate area include AnMed, Chick-fil-A and Dominion. Philip Keller, Vice President of Fontaine Construction said, “We are pleased to be part of this project in Anderson. We are excited about the positive impact the hotel and new businesses will have on our hometown.”

The hotel will be a focused-service property affiliated with the Hilton family of properties. It will be developed by Main at Market, LLC, a new partnership between Paragon Hotel Company, headquartered in Anderson, and Steve Timmons of Greenville, as these established regional companies embark on their first venture as partners. Paragon Hotel Company will also function as the management company overseeing day to day activities once the hotel opens.

Mitesh Patel, President of Paragon Hotels and a partner in Main at Market, LLC said, “This is our home and we are proud to be a part of a project that will be dynamic for Anderson.”

The development will be a multi-story structure with 87 guestrooms and retail/restaurant space on the first floor. Amenities will include conference rooms and meeting spaces along with an outdoor fire pit and swimming pool.

“This important economic development project has evolved thanks to the efforts of many people. Our Mayor and City Council are to be commended for their visionary leadership throughout the process,” said City Manager David McCuen. “We appreciate the support we’ve had from Anderson County and the professionals from Main at Market during the planning phase. And we also appreciate the support we’ve had from the public. We look forward to working with Van Winkle and Fontaine as the process moves ahead to completion.”

Construction is slated to be completed within 24 months.
