Salary Range – $41,091 – $50,211
The purpose of the class is to assist in coordinating and participate in the daily operations and maintenance of City cemeteries, and to perform related supervisory and technical work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Position Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions |
- Assists in coordinating and participates in the daily operations and maintenance of City cemeteries.
- Assists in supervising subordinate crew workers engaged in cemetery activities; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; acting on employee problems. Offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
- Sells cemetery plots, opens and closes graves.
- Coordinate and manage staffing schedules for funeral services during weekends.
- Communicate with funeral directors, support staff, and other team members to ensure coverage for all scheduled services.
- Assists visitors / family members in locating specific grave sites.
- Supervises and performs general groundskeeping work as necessary, including but not limited to heavy equipment operations, excavating and compacting earth, pouring foundations for headstones, mowing grass, pruning trees and shrubs, removing trees, removing weeds, applying herbicides and fertilizers, applying pesticides as needed, edging walkways, raking leaves, removing debris, etc.
- Ensures the availability of necessary equipment, tools, supplies and materials for crew members.
- Supervises and assists with the proper maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
- Ensures all work is performed in compliance with applicable policies and procedures, laws and regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
- Assists in maintaining accurate and up-to-date cemetery records.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
- Performs general office duties, including but not limited to answering the telephone, greeting and assisting visitors and customers, preparing reports and records, copying and filing documents, etc.
- Attends training, workshops, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Essential Skills and Experience |
- Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Prefer three years of related grounds maintenance or facility maintenance experience.
- Demonstrate:
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with ability to develop strong professional working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to speak compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
- Ability to plan effectively, set priorities, make sound decisions, and to manage/complete multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activity.
- Superior organizational skills, strong quality orientation, and high attention to detail.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and custom applications.
- Strong ethical standards, reliability, professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

- Experience in scheduling, staffing, or a related role (preferred).
