New City Manager – David McCuen IV

Mayor Terence Roberts announced today that David McCuen IV has been named City Manager for the City of Anderson. McCuen has served the City as Assistant City Manager since November of 2015. McCuen will fill the role upon the retirement of Linda McConnell, a 41 year veteran of the City, who was named City Manager in 2015.

“We are fortunate to have David ready to step into this critical role in the leadership of our City,” Mayor Roberts said. “He not only brings executive level experience, but he has also gained deep knowledge of our operation and our community which will position him well to guide the City forward.”

McCuen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Presbyterian College and he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Clemson University. He served as City Manager for the City of Abbeville prior to coming to Anderson. During his tenure in Abbeville, his achievements included the development of that city’s first multi-year strategic plan, downtown revitalization projects, and infrastructure upgrades.

“I’m grateful for the confidence council has placed in me and thankful for Mrs. McConnell’s leadership in guiding our City to where we are now,” McCuen said. “Anderson is a dynamic city in a sound fiscal position. Right now, the sky’s the limit for us. I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to be part of our future serving a visionary council and our energetic citizens.”

Since coming to Anderson, McCuen has been instrumental in economic development projects such as the Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel and the location of West Point Home offices in downtown. He has had a key role in public safety initiatives in the Police and Fire Departments ensuring equipment upgrades and efficient organizational structures.  McCuen has also guided the implementation of a financial capital planning model to position the City for long-term growth and continued fiscal health.

“We are confident in the choice of David for our City Manager,” said Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Beatrice Thompson. “We will miss Linda very much and we are deeply appreciative of the mammoth, truly extraordinary, job she has done for our City. Based on David’s leadership experience and his broad skill set, we believe that he will fill the role with a great deal of competence and take us to the next level.”

McCuen is a graduate of the South Carolina Economic Development Institute and is currently enrolled in a professional development program facilitated by the International Economic Development Council.  Lifelong residents of the Upstate, he and his wife Elizabeth Ann live in Anderson with their children, Woods and Blakely Ann. McCuen will begin his duties as City Manager on February 16th
