City of Anderson Emergency Services Updates

All City Offices and the Recreation Center will resume normal openings for Wednesday, January 28th.  

Bus routes will resume regular scheduled service.

Sanitation services will collect Tuesday’s carts that were not serviced today and will collect Wednesday’s route as scheduled.

Monday, January 26, 2026 | 3:30 pm

Mother Nature and road crews teamed up today and made solid progress clearing roads across the area. Conditions have improved, but winter still has a few tricks up its sleeve.

As temperatures drop tonight, keep an eye out for black ice. It likes to hide in plain sight and usually shows up first on bridges, overpasses, and shaded spots.

A few friendly reminders:
• If the road looks wet but it is freezing cold, it is probably icy
• Bridges and overpasses freeze faster than regular pavement
• Slow down and give yourself extra room to stop
• Take it easy on turns and at intersections

Crews will continue monitoring road conditions. Please remain alert and stay safe.

All City Offices and the Recreation Center will open at 10am including City Hall, Municipal Business Center Offices, and the Recreation Center for Tuesday, January 27th.  

Bus Routes will resume service at 11am.

Sanitation service will resume on Monday’s routes, including garbage cart collection. Once Monday’s routes are completed, pickup will continue into Tuesday’s routes. If your cart is not picked up as scheduled, please leave it at the curb for the following day for collection.

Road conditions are improving in some areas as temperatures rise today. Highs are expected to reach into the 40s before temperatures drop into the teens overnight.

City, county, and state crews will continue clearing and treating roadways throughout the day. Any remaining moisture on roads is expected to refreeze tonight, which may lead to slick and icy conditions by late evening and early morning.

Use extra caution if you must travel tonight or early tomorrow.
• Watch for black ice, especially where pavement looks wet
• Bridges and overpasses may freeze first
• Shaded areas and less traveled roads can remain icy longer
• Slow down and allow extra stopping distance

If travel is not necessary, consider delaying until conditions improve. Please continue to use caution and stay safe.

Roads across the area are currently covered due to a wintry mix of frozen precipitation and remain hazardous. While some primary highways have shown signs of thawing, it is still unclear how much improvement will occur overnight.

Secondary roads and neighborhood streets remain hazardous. Even if temperatures rise above freezing, icy conditions may persist, especially on bridges, overpasses, and less traveled roads.

If you must drive:
• Slow down and allow extra stopping distance
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Watch closely for black ice, especially at intersections and curves
• Use caution around road crews as they continue treatment efforts

If travel is not necessary, consider postponing until conditions improve. Local, county, and state crews are working around the clock to treat roads as conditions allow, prioritizing primary routes and emergency access.

Please continue to use caution and stay safe.

All City Offices and Recreation Facilities will be closed including City Hall, Municipal Business Center Offices, and the Recreation Center for Monday, January 26th.

Due to road conditions expected to continue to deteriorate throughout Sunday and Sunday night with conditions for Monday expected to be difficult, City Offices will be closed and the City Council meeting is canceled.

Bus Routes and Sanitation Routes will not operate due to icy conditions. We will provide daily updates and will resume service as soon as conditions allow.

• Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses
• Close outdoor water valves if possible
• Use outdoor faucet covers
• Let faucets drip slightly to keep water moving
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Seal drafts and gaps near pipes, windows, and doors
• Insulate exposed pipes with foam insulation or towels
• If you will not be in your home, turn off the water to your house or business and drain pipes before leaving

Taking a few simple steps ahead of time can help avoid damage and disruptions. Stay warm, stay safe, and keep the water flowing this weekend!
