Position Summary
The purpose of the position is to enforce City Ordinance as well as State and Federal laws; conduct investigations of crimes or suspected criminal activity involving narcotics, gangs, guns, alcohol, gambling, and prostitution that are committed in the City of Anderson. This position works within the City of Anderson General Order to perform and develop work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Position Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions
· Requires two years of law enforcement experience
· Demonstrate:

– Ability to speak compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
– Ability to plan effectively, set priorities, make sound decisions, and to manage/complete multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activity.

– Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and custom applications.

– Ability to manage and conduct mobile and stationary surveillance.
– Knowledgeable of the seizures laws and asset forfeiture policies
– Self-motivated to perform the job tasks on a daily basis individually and as a team
· Enforces all federal and state laws and City ordinances relating to public safety and welfare; performs all duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of safety.
· Participate in officer training.
· Ensures the availability of adequate equipment, vehicles and supplies for subordinate officers.
· Confers with officers regarding case problems; assists in the performance of the more difficult law enforcement work.
· Monitors radio traffic
· Locates drug traffickers; makes controlled buys of drugs from suspected drug offenders; manages related accounting records.
· Conduct raids, stakeouts and other surveillance activities as required.
· Perform duties in an undercover capacity.
· Responds to, secures and takes charge of narcotics, vice, gang-related and other crime scenes.
· Gathers physical evidence and submits to crime scene units, including fingerprints and photographs
· Track and record drug, contraband and asset seizures.
· Organizes and analyzes evidence to develop a case.
· Develops and follows leads; interviews complainants, victims and witnesses; identifies and interrogates suspects.
· Seeks, develops and interviews informants.
· Manage and Update Confidential Informant files and records.
· Prepares and serves search warrants; conducts searches and seizures of persons and property.
· Apprehends, arrests and detains criminals, suspects and law violators; follows proper procedures when making arrests.
· Inform superiors of the progress of investigations as required.
· Prepares cases for court and submits case files to proper authorities/agencies; provides testimony at hearings and in court as necessary.
· Cooperates with other local, state and federal law enforcement departments/agencies by conducting and assisting with investigations as needed.
· Serve as a case specific Task Force Officer with all Federal agencies.
· Follows up on solved cases with various parties as appropriate.
· Prepares and submits detailed work records and reports.
· Remains abreast of all federal and state laws, and ordinances of the City of Anderson; informs subordinates of any changes and ensures the implementation/enforcement of same.
· Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles.
· Manage and oversee “buy” money and expenditures.
· Manage and assign complaints/tips to investigators.
· Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance.
· Participates in neighborhood and community relations programs; attends neighborhood meetings to enhance police/community relationships and to address safety and quality of life issues.
· Attends periodic training sessions and attends seminars and meetings to keep abreast of current law enforcement trends; maintains required physical fitness and required level of proficiency in the use of firearms.
· Performs duties of subordinate personnel as needed.
· Works under stressful, high-risk conditions.
· Remains on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response.
· Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.

Essential Skills and Experience
· Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent
· Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
· Must possess Law Enforcement Officer and firearms certifications.
· Must be able to pass an extensive Federal background check.
· Must not have any Giglio issues and be able to testify in City, State and Federal courts.
